Throwing a Wine & Cheese Party

I am an only child and therefore growing up I attended a lot of adult parties with my parents. In particular, I can remember going to wine and cheese parties. I would of course watch a movie another room while my parents would enjoy a few beverages. Occasionally, I’d get a sip if I heckled them enough.  This past weekend, I threw a my own adult wine and cheese party and it was a smash – mind the pun.

The truth is one can throw a wine and cheese party on a fairly decent budget. We ordered a large cheese platter from a great little French specialty shop located on Harbord Street called Chabichou. The platter quite literally had cheeses from all over the globe from Quebec to the UK.  Our guests were quite pleased to say the least.

Not only did we have traditional cheeses but we also had the most amazing Buffalo Mozzarella from Obika. Obika is restaurant located in downtown Toronto and if you haven’t been then you are severely missing out. You will not find Buffalo Mozzarella as fresh as this. They literally fly it in from Italy. The cheese is only 2-3 days old.

With a wine and cheese party, obviously the wine is a very key portion. We made sure to have lots of it because lets face it, it’s not a party without the booze. We paired the cheese with both red and white wine (Pinot Grigio and a Valpolicella Ripasso).

The party was classy for the most part but eventually got sassy if you know what I mean.  This was obviously not my parent’s kind of party – no children watching movies in the living room. One recommendation- throw on Songza’s Indie Apartment Party soundtrack around the second or third glass of wine….

We’d like to give a big thanks to Chabichou and Obika for the amazing cheeses.

  1. Aw, this was an exceptionally good post. Taking the time and
actual effort to create a superb article… but what can
I say… I hesitate a whole lot and never manage to get anything done.
