Moores Canadian Suit Drive: Give A Suit – Change A Life

Most times when we think of giving back, our minds immediately become fixated on soup kitchens, helping out at the local homeless shelter and spending countless hours upon hours with stray dogs at a pet shelter. Although these are very nice things to do for your community, giving back can be as easy as emptying out your closet and giving your unwanted clothing to those really in need.

I don’t know about you, but I know I have a slight shopping problem. I always buy my staples in 5 colours meaning I wear the black one all of the time and the rest get pushed to the back of the closet. It’s time I get cleaning out my closet (queue the Eminem!)

The Moores Canadian Suit Drive is back this year. Throughout July, Moores hopes to collect more than 50,000 much needed articles of clothing which will go to recipient organizations. Donations can be made at over 100 Moores stores across Canada. Now in its fifth year, the program continues to donate gently used work wear to help men AND women transitioning into the workforce.

It’s crazy just how much a new outfit can change a life. It can make a person feel that inner power that was once lost due to circumstance. Watch this inspirational video of some of this year’s suit recipients:

In honour of its fifth year, here are the top 5 reasons you should donate:

  1. Countdown – Unemployment is dropping nationally. Let’s keep it going! There are still 735,600 unemployed working age males in Canada who may be in need of a suit to wear to an interview.
  2. Support your Community – When you donate to the Canadian Suit Drive you are supporting 60 local recipient organizations across Canada who know their communities well and get the clothing to those that need it.
  3. Stay on Trend – The Canadian Suit Drive gives you a reason to clean out your closet and upgrade your work wardrobe. Donate gently used professional attire from seasons past and check out the latest fashions all in one trip.
  4. No suit? No Problem! – You can donate even if you don’t have any professional attire to spare. For every social mention of #SuitDrive, Moores will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to the cause. You don’t even have to leave the house!
  5. Give Some, Get Some – When you donate to the Canadian Suit Drive, you receive 50% off your next regularly priced purchase at Moores*

Rick Campanelli is the Moores Canadian Suit Drive official spokesperson. He is pretty much the coolest of cool and everything I had expected from seeing him all of those years as Rick the Temp on Much Music – only now he’s rocking a suit instead of ripped jeans. I was lucky enough to meet him and talk to him about how a suit took him from the world of music videos to hosting ET Canada – Very cool.
