A Cinderella Story (Red Carpet Edition)

As a child I always dreamt about walking the red carpet and not down the isle like most girls. To be specific- The Grammy’s is where I always pictured myself. I’ve yet to have this privilege but I’ve had my chance at a few step and repeats in my recent adulthood. Who doesn’t love a good step and repeat?

I have a few memorable red carpet moments that I’d like to share with you. My favourite event to attend in Toronto is the Luminato Opening Party. Luminato is a arts festival that happens over the span of a few weeks. Parks become filled with amazing authors, innovative music fills the air, and the theatre stages are full of life with astonishing performances. You can only imagine what the opener party is like. The invitees are of the utmost class and the venue never disappoints. I have attended this event over the past 3 years and have never had a poor time. A few years ago, I didn’t have an invite which left me sad and depressed. I chose to go out with a few of my agency friends to a bar for some afterwork beers –  this was going to be a real classy evening indeed. My friends who were fortunate enough to have tickets were busy texting in face about how much fun they were having.

I got a call after a pitcher in from one of my jerky friends at the event explaining that they had come across an extra ticket and to get my buns down to the event asap. I settled the bill and hit the ground running (literally). I arrived home, threw on my best dress, and booked ‘er by cab. While in the cab, I had this great idea that I would do an artsy take on my hair. I messily put it up to the side thinking people would just assume I meant for it to look like this. I after all was going for the messy-chic look.

Messy Chic

Messy Chic

I arrived on time to enjoy the step and repeat wall and this my friends made my frantic run home worth while. The next year I vowed to myself I would get a ticket in advance and make sure I was well put together. This year I put some time into the outfit and my hair. I was quite the opposite from messy-chic and rather just chic. It was a fabulous event that I got to enjoy with some fabulous friends. I ended up wearing a sort of scandalous dress but nonetheless felt great in my choice of attire. I slicked back my hair and wore a perfect sock bun. Not a hair was out of place – hence a bottle of hairspray was used.

Pepared

Prepared

When dressing for events, it is important to take the weather into account.  These hot nights in Toronto practically beg for something above the knee. A red carpet doesn’t always have to call for a long dress. I wore this off the shoulder dress at a recent party which was perfect for the hot summer night. Poor Nick pictured next to ‘Neon’ ended up wearing a full blazer…Poor bastard! With men it’s a different story. It’s very seldom you’ll find a stylish sleeveless shirt to sport in July.

I hope you enjoyed this Cinderella story just as much as I enjoyed being fully prepared a year later.
